You Know Your Child is Capable

But something doesn’t feel quite right.

Maybe they’ve moved schools, countries or curriculum, and things that used to feel straightforward now feel uncertain.

Or perhaps they haven’t missed anything at all, but they’re still struggling to keep up and their confidence is beginning to dip.

You can see the potential is there… they just need the right support to unlock it.
That’s exactly where I come in.

How I Help Your Child Succeed

Every student is different, so there’s no one-size-fits-all approach.

I start by understanding exactly where your child is now, what they’ve missed, where they’re struggling, and what’s affecting their confidence.

From there, I build a clear, personalised plan to help them catch up, keep up, and move forward with confidence.

Each session is tailored in real time — adapting to how your child is thinking, what they understand, and where they need support most.

My teaching approach is calm, structured and supportive, with lessons adapted to suit each student’s individual needs. My teacher training included inclusive approaches designed to support students with different learning needs and confidence levels.

This isn’t about rushing through content — it’s about building real understanding, so confidence grows naturally.

About

Hi I'm James,

I’m an online Maths and Physics tutor, helping students build confidence and understanding when things haven’t quite clicked.

I work with students across the UK and internationally, supporting those who are catching up, adapting to a new school or curriculum, or simply finding things more challenging than expected.

I support students in Maths and Physics up to GCSE, IGCSE and National 5 level, and also help build strong foundations in Maths and Science at BGE and KS3 level.

My background combines engineering and teaching.

My real-world engineering experience helps me teach Maths and Physics in a practical, relatable way — helping students understand not just how concepts work, but why they matter.

I spent 15 years as a Weapons Engineer in the Royal Navy before later working as a Senior Systems Engineer at BAE Systems, developing a structured and methodical approach to solving complex problems.

I also completed formal training in secondary Physics teaching at Edinburgh Napier University, including classroom experience and research-informed teaching approaches, giving me a strong understanding of how students learn and where difficulties can arise.

My approach is calm, structured and personalised — focused on building real understanding so students feel confident in what they’re doing.

If something doesn’t feel right, it’s worth addressing early.

If your child is starting to lose confidence or fall behind, the sooner you step in, the easier it is to get them back on track.

A short conversation can quickly identify what’s going on and how best to support them.
